"There's absolutely no reason why the remastered Halo 2 can't run at full 1080p at 60fps," he said. "It's the developer's insistence at being able to switch between remastered and classic modes that explains the sub-native presentation: two entire framebuffers need to be held in memory while 343 itself suggests a rather more ambitious set-up - that two distinct game engines are running simultaneously, side-by-side."

"Personally, I would have preferred the ability to disable the instant classic/remaster switcheroo in the options, freeing up the necessary resources for a full 1080p60 presentation - this would have given us the ability to bring the Halo 2 remaster into line with all of the other games in the Master Chief Collection."
"Halo CE Anniversary is running Xbox 360 fidelity assets at 1080p with some rendering and lighting improvements. H2A is running higher res textures, geo, characters and animation AND running the OG engine at the same time."
This downgrade has nothing to do with Xbox One not being capable of handling native 1080p, but due to the fact that the game is running two different engines. 343 Executive Producer Dan Ayoub revealed to IGN that Halo 2: Anniversary Edition is using the original graphics engine and the Xbox One-ified Anniversary graphics engine simultaneously and the original Halo 2 audio engine and remastered Anniversary audio engine simultaneously. This way, players can switch back and forth between the original and Anniversary graphics and audio. The trade-off is the slightly lower resolution.
Halo 3 has been, perhaps, the part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection that fans have been most curious about, because it's not as shiny-new as Halo 4 (look for 1080p/60fps footage of that later this week), and it's not getting the Anniversary treatment that Halo 1 and Halo 2 are. So what does Halo 3 look like on the latest Xbox console? Take a look at the video and see for yourself!
The RTX 2060 absolutely smashed it in terms of FPS performance in Halo 2, breezing through both 1080p and 1440p screen resolutions. And the best part is that if you're rocking an RTX 2060 card or better, you can easily play Halo 2 Anniversary at 4K resolution.
The FPS performance of a GTX 1060 in Halo 2 Anniversary is really good, smashing through 1080p and 1440p resolution settings. 4K is definitely an option here, but for multiplayer you might want to stick to 1440p to keep that competitive advantage.
The GTX 970 also does really well in terms of FPS performance in Halo 2. Both 1080p and 1440p are once again viable options, and you can comfortably play at 4K in the campaign. But just like the GTX 1060 above, you might want to stay on 1440p for multiplayer in Halo 2.
The Radeon R9 380 quite surprisingly does really well for FPS performance even at 1440p screen resolution, whilst breezing through 1080p easily, in Halo 2 Anniversary. Whilst you can play the campaign at 4K resolution, it's definitely not recommended for multiplayer. Overall though, you can comfortably stick to 1440p resolution in Halo 2 for PC with a Radeon R9 380.
The FPS performance results for a Radeon R7 370 in Halo 2 are actually really good. 4K gaming is not recommended here, but at 1440p you can get a comfortable frame rate during the campaign. But if you want to play multiplayer, 1080p might be the better option just in case. But in the end, the R7 370 surprisingly breezes through both 1080p and 1440p resolutions settings for Halo 2 Anniversary on PC.
So as you can see in the FPS performance results above, Halo 2: Anniversary is wonderfully optimized for PC, allowing even lower-end cards the ability to get solid performance results at 1080p and even 1440p. So it looks like pretty much anyone is going to be able to play Halo 2 PC at 1080p 60fps in some form or another.
Overall, Halo 2: Anniversary is a fantastic port for PC players that sees even those with lower-end hardware able to steadily run the game at 1440p and blow past the 60fps mark with ease at 1080p. Interestingly, there doesn't seem to be a massive difference between the 1080p and 1440p screen resolution settings for Halo 2 Anniversary, especially on higher end cards, so you can safely stay at 1440p without worry of any performance issues. Plus, Halo 2 on PC may be one of the most easily accessible 4K gaming experiences out there in terms of recent AAA titles.
In case one is worried though, the remaining aspects of Halo: The Master Chief Collection is in 1080p and 60 FPS. Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 3 and Halo 4 will all run at this standard but Halo 2 Anniversary will be the one exception.
All of this has been true since the original Halo, which is why The Master Chief Collection represents such excellent value. The four mainline Halo games all look and play great on Xbox One, although the precise details of their upgrades differ. Halo: Combat Evolved is based on the 2011 anniversary remake for Xbox 360, this time running in 1080p resolution and at 60 frames per second. Halo 3 and 4 are essentially the Xbox 360 games with the same 1080p/60fps boost. 2ff7e9595c
